LeMoyne College has apparently expelled a graduate student because he wrote a paper advocating the use of corporal punishment in schools.
My take on this is that it had little to do with the student advocating corporal punishment. I think it's about him offending the intellectual vanity of the college officials who expelled him. That's his real crime. And there could be any number of things that might offend their intellectual vanity. (The article says that the student got an A- on the paper before the delayed reaction expulsion occurred.)
The news story I've linked to is so poorly written that there are few details to get a grip on, so the facts might be other than they appear to be.
Thanks to Drudge for pointing the way to it.
