...have him worked up into a melodramatic lather. Now, Helprin is right, but so is the guy who yells "the world is coming to an end." The world eventually will end. There's more than a little of that in Helprin's article, but given that today is the worst day of the year, I'll forego a point by point analysis. At least he's not suggesting that the planet will be irreversibly doomed in ten years.
