The vengeful Left

At last the building psychotic anger of the global elite and its Leftist underpinnings are being more widely examined as a (I here pledge to spare readers the clanking an) historical phenomenon. This article, by Nelson Ascher at Europundit, traces it back to Leftist discomfort and anxiety upon the fall of the Berlin Wall as the symbol of the collapse of Soviet Communism. Belmont Club picks up nicely on Ascher's theme, relates it to the Left's shallow apprehension of the problem of radical Islam, and draws some interesting reader comments.

I have argued for a very long time that old barrels of Soviet propaganda are rolled off the backs of the Left's wagons as a matter of routine. The stuff inside the barrels has fermented, mutated, soured, and staled, but the Left still drinks it, and that's why the Left has gone substantially nuts. But it's worse than that. Look at the Democratic Party in the U.S. It shows the psychiatric profile of a Bronx men's shelter. Howard Dean as DNC chairman? If the Democrats want to head in that direction, why take a half-measure like Dean? Go hire Brian Becker away from the Workers World Party, ANSWER, and the International Action Center. It's his basic rhetoric that Dean is borrowing anyway.

Dean is a sort of puritanical Daffy Duck with a political fever. He's the American version of the crazed puritanical school marms (of both sexes) that one can observe in the audience of the British Labour Party annual meetings (thank you, C-SPAN, for that fright). I recall one account of Dean neurotically inspecting the trash baskets at his campaign headquarters for soda cans that belonged in the recycling bin. A good question is whether there are any rank and file Democrats who get this Dean thing for what it is?

If Dean is going to be the point man on the flying wedge of Leftist revenge via the Democratic Party, then the mask of sanity is gone. I'm both fearful and grateful at the prospect of that.
